Murray Walker Dies, aged 97

13th Mar, 2021

Murray Walker, the legendary F1 commentator, has sadly passed away at the age of 07. Known as 'the Voice of F1', Murray commentated on F1 races full-time for over 20 years and was much-loved by everyone in F1, teams and fans alike. He was made famous for his occasional blunders and well-known phrases, but he put in an incredible amount of work every race to make sure that the viewers were getting as surreal an experience as was possible. He will be sorely missed.

Portugal Confirmed for 2021 Calendar

5th Mar, 2021

The 2021 F1 calendar is finally confirmed, as Portimao is officially added on the 2nd of May, as the third race of the season. F1 travelled to Portugal last year for what was an entertaining race, and the circuit has been rumoured to have been returning for some time now. In other news, Williams released their car, with a livery similar to their glory days 30 years ago. However, their initial plan of releasing the car on an app wad disrupted as hackers stopped that from happening.

Mazepin Admits "Huge Mistake" in Haas Car Launch

Nikita Mazepin has stated that he was "not proud" of his behaviour and understood why it was wrong. He is understood to have been referencing the video he released on his Instagram story of him inappropriately touching a woman, although there have been many other incidents that sparked controversy throughout his career. Haas revealed their car- the VF-21- which features multiple Russian flags, recognising Mazepin's father, Dmitry's, involvement in the funding of the team for this season.

Mercedes Reveal New 2021 Car W12

Mercedes have revealed the car that Lewis Hamilton will drive next season, on his pursuit to overtake Michael Schumacher in having the most F1 World Championships to his name. The striking mix of black and green. Alpine have also launched their car (the A521, with a colourful livery that is a fan favourite. Aston Martin had a fancy launch for the AMR21, with a dark green car with flashes of pink.

Red Bull Launch 2021 Title Challenger RB16B

Red Bull have become the fourth team to show off their new car, following McLaren, Alpha Tauri and Alfa Romeo. While the Red Bull livery looks almost identical, Alfa Romeo's C41 and Alpha Tauri's AT02 have more noitceable changes. The Alfa Romeo has switched the colours from red on top and white lower down to the other way round. Alpha Tauri however have gone more drastic, taking out most of the white that featured on their 2020 car and replacing it with a dark shade of blue.

McLaren Reveal 2021 Challenger MCL35M

McLaren revealed the MCL35M, their 2021 car, in an online event which was streamed on a variety of platforms, including YouTube. The car doesn't look that much different on the outside, partly due to the enforced development freeze, but it will be a totally different beast come pre-season testing, as the power unit has switched from Renault to Mercedes, looking to emulate the glory days of 2007 and 2008. Also, the floor has been adapted to suit the new rules, with an angled cut and the diffuser has been altered as well. Due to the power unit change, McLaren were the busiest team over the Winter and they were the first team to reveal their 2021 car.

Alonso Involved In Cycling Accident

Fernando Alonso has been involved in a cycling accident while riding his road bike in Switzerland. The Spaniard suffered a fractured jaw after a collision with a car outside a supermarket, but fortunately the surgery required to correct his injury was successful and Alpine F1 have stated that he will be ready for pre-season testing in a month.

Hamilton Signs New Mercedes Contract

Lewis Hamilton has finally agreed on a new contract with Mercedes for 2021. After a long period where some fans questioned if he would eventually re-sign, Hamilton finally put pen to paper for a one-year deal with the Silver Arrows. Next year, he will be heading into his ninth season at Mercedes, and aiming for his eighth World Championship title, which would beat the all-time record set by Michael Schumacher. Then, who knows, maybe he might look elsewhere for 2022.

Correa to return to F3

Feb 2nd, 2021

Juan Manuel Correa, after extensive surgery and medical treatment, has signed for ART in F3 for the 2021 season. This follows the horrific injuries he suffered at that tragic day in Spa a year and a half ago, when a collision between him and French F2 driver Anthoine Hubert, saw Hubert lose his life and Correa survive with massive damage to his legs. Remarkably though, he has managed to pull through and return to racing this year, a marvellous comeback story for all motorsport fans to enjoy.

Gasly Tests Positive for COVID-19

Feb 1st, 2021

Pierre Gasly has announced he is self-isolating after a positive test for COVID-19. He becomes the sixth F1 driver to get the virus, after Sergio Perez, Lance Stroll, Lewis Hamilton, Lando Norris and Charles Leclerc. Speaking on Twitter, Gasly has stated that he is following all of the local health procedures in Dubai, where is he is training currently. He said, "I am feeling ok and will continue to follow my training plan from home." This of course makes F1 supporters around the world nervous for the much-anticipated start of the 2021 season. The current start date is the 26th of March for the start of the Bahrain Grand Prix, but that may have to be delayed further if Covid plays a part.

Leclerc Tests Positive for COVID-19

Charles Leclerc, the young Ferrari driver, has tested positive for COVID-19. He has reportedly followed all procedures correctly and anyone that he has been in close contact with has been notified and told to self-isolate. Leclerc becomes the fifth F1 driver to catch the virus, following Sergio Perez, Lance Stroll, Lewis Hamilton and Lando Norris. This news comes after two races have already been postponed this season and it will surely bring up concerns about even more races being postponed or even cancelled due to the ongoing nature of the virus.

Imola Returns and Bahrain to Host Season Opener Amid Race Postponements

F1 have announced a new, updated race schedule for 2021. With Australia being postponed to November and China being temporarily left off the calendar, Imola has returned to the calendar and will take place when the Chinese Grand Prix was planned to have: on the 18th of April. This also means that Bahrain will become the season opener and we will start racing there on the 28th March. The race on the 2nd May has still yet to be decided.

Cyril Abiteboul leaves Renault ahead of the 2021 season

As the 2021 season is nearing, Renault, newly re-branded as Alpine, have announced that Cyril Abiteboul will be leaving the company. Cyril, previously the CEO of Renault Formula One Team, stated, "I would like to thank the Groupe Renault for having trusted me for many years, particularly with the relaunch and reconstruction of the team since 2016." Luca De Meo, the CEO of Renault said, "I would like to warmly thank Cyril for his tireless involvement, which notably led the Renault F1 Team from the penultimate place in 2016 to the podiums last season." This came as a shock to the whole F1 community, because of the success Renault had last year, with three podiums. He declared that he wanted to be in a less F1-focused role. He has been succeeded in his role by Laurent Rossi, formerly the Director of Strategy and Business development of Groupe Renault.

Sainz Allowed to Test Old-Spec Car but Vettel and Ricciardo Aren't

Mattia Binotto has stated that they plan to give Carlos Sainz an extra test in a two-year old car before pre-season testing in Barcelona. However, both Andreas Seidl and Otmar Szafnauer have stated that their new drivers, Daniel Ricciardo and Sebastian Vettel, will not be afforded the same luxury, as the teams are not able to give them an old-spec car to test. Is this another example of Ferrari's additional resources coming into play and giving them an advantage over their rivals?

Stroll wants world titles with Aston Martin

Lawrence Stroll has told the BBC that he hopes for world titles with his newly renamed Aston Martin team. He also thinks his son, Lance, could get a world title in his car. Also, on Sebastian Vettel, Stroll believes that, "He is going to take the team in a direction of leading us to where ultimately we want to be."
